1. a) I used a bunch of drawing objects to create the robot shape, primitive shapes for the red planet (with a gradient fill), and merge object for the background.
b) I grouped all boxes for robot together. This helped make one solid object to move around as a whole.
2. a) I named each layer for what it was, ie: Background, robot features, etc.
c) I used pencil and paint brush to create earth & the ring around the other planet, as well as the robots "teeth" lines. I also used the subselection tool to modify these objects.
3. a) I think managing complex graphics on a single layer would be difficult. The pitfalls for this would be not being able to make many changes and it not effect the entire layer. With different layers you can create exactly the feel you want and lay it over top the others to not mess with the other layers you have already created.
b) I prefer using the box and oval tools because it makes more of a clean line than the pen or pencil tools do. This was definitely a lot more fun for me. I sat down and thought through what I wanted to create and didnt rush myself.
