Orson Project 2

Experience: I’ve had a lot of training so far in my illustrator
class which uses many of the same tools. I pulled some of the shapes I created
in that class over to play with for this image. It was fun to see how the tools
inter-relate and what experience is specific to what program. I can’t say I really
have a favorite tool, but my least favorite might be the pen tool. I’m still
trying to get more comfortable with it.

1. Create one layer with complex graphics on one layer

i. Identify which elements are grouped.

The Canoe image is grouped. The owl image is grouped the land elements are grouped.

ii. What purpose did the grouped objects serve?

It makes it easier to manipulate (move, transform, etc.) objects that are grouped together.
2. Create additional layers using other graphics tools

c. Create a curved object using the tool of your choice(pencil, oval, paint brush,
pen) and then use the Subselection tool to modify the original
Please state
in your blog what you started with and your intension.

I made mountains, creating a line with the brush tool and pulling them down with
the subselection tool.

h. Please experiment using the different stacking order of layers

i.Why did you select the final order? What did it accomplish?

The order I selected had to do with what logically would be in front of what in the
image so that foreground elements blocked out background elements.

Jessica Hirsch: Project 2

Grouped Objects: I decided to group the trees and the stars in this picture. By grouping the objects, I could shift all of them around at once if necessary. I decided to move the trees around a little and having them grouped saved me a lot of time - I didn't have to move them individually.

Arrange Tool: I wound up using the arrange tool a fair amount during this project for the trees and the wildlife. I moved some of the trees to the back and to the front to have them overlap. I also make sure that the wildlife was pulled to the front.

Layers: At the end of the project, I had five layers. Background, sky, masked layer, flora, and fauna. Having a layer for each "part" of the project really helped me to stay organized. I made sure that I hid some of the layers from time to time to make it easier for me to see what I was working on. I love that you can hide the layers - it helped me a ton!

Deco/Spray Can: I used this tool to create the stars in the sky and the dots on the deer. For the star, I used the Polygon tool, used the Free Transform tool to resize the star, then saved it as a symbol. I then used the spray can, by adjusting the brush size, height and width to scatter the stars. For the deer, I made a circle in the color I wanted, resized it, then saved it as a symbol and sprayed it on the deer.

Curved Object:
The moon in this picture is a curved object created with the oval tool. I stretched it into the shape I wanted, then rotated it using the Free Transform tool.

Folder Organization: I wound up with four folders. Background, sky, flora, and fauna. Any time I created a new symbol to use in the project, I would save it to the folders right away to keep myself organized.

Mask/Masked Layer Pair: I couldn't really decide what to mask, but I ended up masking the stars. I created an oval shape, then used the pen tool and bezier curves to distort it into a blob shape.

Other Tools: Other tools I used in this project were the polygon tool to make the triangles for the trees, the rectangle tool to make the trunks of the trees, and the gradient tool to add a gradient to my sky.

Managing Complex Graphics: As far as managing complex graphics on a single layer, organization is key for me. Things can get out of hand very quickly if I don't stay organized. Also, grouping like objects together makes it easier for me to keep track of everything.

Preferences: Even though I'm not a great artist, I still LIKE to draw. So my favorite tool is still the paint brush tool. I'm also very fond of the eraser and undo, lol! I'm hoping to get a Wacom pad soon - I think it will help instead of using the mouse. I'm also having a really great time experimenting with adjusting the Alpha in my drawings. He's very hard to see, being so small, but the bunny's face is actually my favorite part of this project. It came out just how I wanted it and I love the way he looks. Too bad he's so small!

Project 02 - Jared R.B. Ward

http://sws.pcc.edu/student/CAS175_pdeangel_27343/jaredward40/project02/project02.swf

The grass blades you see in the background where created, morphed, merged, and copy-and-pasted continuously right on the stage itself. It has its own layer.

The tree, lake, ball, bushes, and clouds were made into their own graphics symbol. The spray can was used for those little details you see on the tree/bush/could, while their outlines were manipulated to look as they do now. The deco tool was used for the bush, and the gradient coloring used for it, the tree and it's leaves, and the lake.

The background you see (hill + sky) had it's own layer and graphics symbol. It was made using outline manipulation for the hill's curve, and the spray can for it's details. The sky was apart of this same symbol, with a solid blue background and spray can for the little cloud detailing.

Project 2 - Jaclyn Breanne Smith

1. a) I used a bunch of drawing objects to create the robot shape, primitive shapes for the red planet (with a gradient fill), and merge object for the background.
b) I grouped all boxes for robot together. This helped make one solid object to move around as a whole.

2. a) I named each layer for what it was, ie: Background, robot features, etc.
c) I used pencil and paint brush to create earth & the ring around the other planet, as well as the robots "teeth" lines. I also used the subselection tool to modify these objects.

3. a) I think managing complex graphics on a single layer would be difficult. The pitfalls for this would be not being able to make many changes and it not effect the entire layer. With different layers you can create exactly the feel you want and lay it over top the others to not mess with the other layers you have already created.

b) I prefer using the box and oval tools because it makes more of a clean line than the pen or pencil tools do. This was definitely a lot more fun for me. I sat down and thought through what I wanted to create and didnt rush myself.

project2.johnburns

Okay, this is my second project blog. So this time, I'll try to not write to much information. For the first part I created three complex graphics (each one being made of of merge drawings, object drawings and primitive shapes). Now forgive my speech because I'm no motorcycle gear-head, but these three images were each a chunk of a motor cycle. The first one being the main body with the seat and front leg (that's what I call the long thing holding the front wheel. The second was the giant back wheel with a giant primitive circle (the back wheel) and a part of a primitive ring (the thing holding the back wheel to the motorbike). The final part was the front wheel with the star as its spokes. I rearranged the the stacking order until my bike was complete. I then named that layer Ifrit-95 (the name of the new bike) and put it in a folder I named BMX before locking it and turning off its visibility.
I then began making the scenery with a green circle altered with the subselection tool, a group of lines I painted w/ my brush to make a tree on the grassy hill (my circle) as well as the green grass on it. But before I made that grassy hill, I made a sunset sky with a rectangle w/ a radial color pattern of dark red (center) and darker blue (higher) and extended the red and relocated it using the gradient transform tool. I renamed all of those layers after and put them in a folder called BG. Then I rearranged the order of the folders and turned the visibility of the BMX folder back on.
Regrettably though, I didn't have anywhere else to put my idea for a mask, so I created a new file after saving that first one. One my new first layer (the vineyard) I went with that basic-flower field deco-style. Then I made a second layer and created a creepy crescent moon and made that my first mask. But the moon had an eye so I thought I'd notice the empty pace which is the white of its eye in the mask too. But instead I had to use a symbol with the deco tool to create my eye.
As for the questions I think my order went really well because I managed to make my images as clear as day. I named my layers after what they looked like and rearranged them so they made sense. My recommendation for any graphic would be to use the merge drawing so you can let your imagination and artistic freedom to run wild. And that is all, so thanks for reading.

Project 2 ~ Darin Tillinghast

What purpose did the grouped objects serve / Elements in some layers should overlap

My grouped objects became rocks on the beach. I used drawing objects for them. Then when I had transformed them and painted and pencil tooled them I grouped them together and used the transform tool to scaled them down and rotate them. I also used the Alpha color effect at 60% to tone them down and I thought it made them look more realistic. I used a second set of grouped objects with primitives that I overlapped they are the second set of rocks that I grouped together after I finished tooling them around with subselection and the spray can and paint brush.

My background was made up of Primitive objects so I could get the sky with the radiant colors, the beach and the seas deep colors.

Use the Arrange tool to modify order of objects

I arranged the background with the transformation tool to fit my landscape onto the stage. I arranged pretty much everything.

Use the deco or spray can to create a pattern/ create a curved object using the tool of your choice pencil, oval, paint brush, pen…

I used the spray can tool to dot or speckle the beach and rocks. I used the pencil tool with the ink choice so I could mess with the foam for the ocean; I used the paint brush tool for this too. I used the pen tool to create the lines for the sailboat. I used the brush too and the paint bucket tool to fill in the sails.

Use other tools of your choice for the remaining elements.

I used the text tool and the gradient transform to size and fit my text.

Create a folder for at least two layers. Choose elements that are related.

My Land folder has my beach sea (background) and the surfboard in it.

Create a mask-masked layer pair

The sun and the moon star are my masked layer. I don’t think I got this correct and for me I spent too much time and am not comfortable with this process I really need some help with the masking.
That said I want to share this link with the coolest things you can do with masking.
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/flash-downunder/masking-and-reflections/

What are your recommendations to manage complex graphics on a single layer? What pitfalls would share with a new user?

I suppose the complex graphics might be set up in a folder and broken down into an all the parts of the graphic. I’m not there yet with this process. I managed by locking and hiding anything I was not working with most of the time.

Post your experience to the project, i.e.: I prefer using this XXXX tool because, etc.

My favorite tool is the paint brush hands down. I also like the objects as so much can be done with them. What im understanding I really get it with the other stuff I really don’t. I enjoy the text still and experimented with the tween getting the sailboat to move. However I could not get it to move within my picture, just on its own layer. Help!

KenAvdeef_project2

1a. I created a red wagon with a drawing object, the snow in the wagon with a merged object and the wagon wheels with the primitive object. All this on one layer in a folder named WAGON.
1b. I created some clouds and grouped these together on one layer. I wanted to keep the two images of the clouds together.
1c. On the red house I used the arrange tool to organize the house features.
2a. In my project all my layers are named and are in folders for each object.
2b. I used the deco tool to make the grass for my ground folder.
2c. On the doghouse I modified the roof of the house using the subselection tool. It started out oval and added a round curved pitch to it.
2d. I used all the tools I could think of in this drawing to make the graphic to make the flower, kite, sun, man.
2e. I created 6 folders for different objects and inside each folder are layers for that object.
2f. I created a mask layer for the moon to give it the football look, the gave it a smile
2g. Elements are overlapped.
2h. The stacking order is arranged to give a 2 dimensional look.
3a. my recommendation to manage complex graphics on a single layer is not to let them overlap. Use as many layers and folders you need to isolated your images for editing.
3b. I had some fun with the pain of learning this software program. I like the gradient tool the most to give it a more polished look.

Eric's project #2

This is a plasma chamber where an RF generator creates a very high frequency electric field
that energizes electrons which collide with argon atoms ionizing them. The argon comes from a tank on the left and the pressure is kept low in the chamber by the pump on the right.

Grouped objects: the tank valve is a group of some primitive ovals and some drawing objects. By grouping I maintain the whole combination as an element I could easily use in other projects. It makes it easy to handle, copy and move around.

Curved object: the vanes in the pump started as ovals and were pushed and pulled to give them that dumb-bell shape, which is actually very critical to how that pump operates - both vanes have to spin in opposite directions while maintaining contact without impeding each others' rotation. I'm looking forward to animating it!

Stacking: I want the appearance of looking into an enclosed chamber, so the layer with the chamber is on top. This makes it so it looks like the gas valve and the pump plug in to the sides. They actually overlap, so this way I don't have to worry about getting that position exact. The sprayed/masked background is in the back (duh?) 'cause everything else should be in front of it, which leaves the atoms, ions and electrons bouncing around inside the chamber and flowing through the pump. Those layers are behind the chamber, but in front of everything else.

Pitfalls:
  • One pitfall I hit with this was my Flash crashed an hour after I started and I forgot to save along the way. Fortunately most of that time was thinking so it only took 15 minutes to rebuild. But, now I save after just about every change - it is so easy: control-s
  • It is somewhat challenging to plan out stacking and layer orders when constructing the various objects - now that I have made my pump I am thinking I might have some trouble showing the atoms flowing to appear in it and not in front of it. Not a huge pitfall - should be easy to work around by adding another layer and copying in place the necessary elements.

Some potential good things I am thinking:
  • I masked the spraypainted background and when we get to animation I think I can suggest some interesting effects that happen inside the chamber by moving the spray object.
  • Using the stacking, grouping and merging principles really helped in creating the gas valve and exhaust pump - two elements I could easily reuse in other projects.
Experiences:

I'm used to working with groups - it is absolutely necessary for me when drawing in MS programs. It just makes manipulating more complicated objects that much easier. Layers adds another *layer* of sophistication to that ease!

For the most part all the tools I used worked as I needed them to: merged, primitive and drawing objects, pen, transform. I did have to fight a little with merged objects disappearing behind drawing objects, but that helped me learn some advantages to using merged objects. Gotta pay attention to that button...

Nobody should be surprised: I did NOT use the pencil tool!

Project 1 - Jaclyn Breanne Smith

A) Merge Drawing was used to make the logs in the fire using oval tool. Object Drawing was used to make the sky using the rectangle tool. Primitive shape is the moon, which I used the oval tool. I enjoy using merge drawing as there is more play room with the object and it is easy to use.

B) I used the pen tool for both the fire and the mountains. For the fire, I drew flames freehand with different colors (orange, red, yellow) and changed the line to be stippled instead of a straight line which caused a more realistic look to me. For the mountain, I used the pen tool to draw them free hand, and used the anchors to arrange them as needed.

C) To create the text, I created a regular text box, and changed the color and font.

D) For gradient, I used the black to white hexadecimal colors to create the color of the moon. I love that it shows a shadowed look on the moon to make it appear real.

E) I used the pencil, brush, and spray can for a few items in the picture. I used the spray can with the regular circle and made the color white to create the snow on the mountain tops. I used the brush to fill in the grey mountains, and the pencil to draw in the ground.

F) I used the spray tool to create the snow (as stated in E) and also the stars in the back ground. For the bonus points, I created the yellow star symbol, and used the spray can to spray that in the sky to create the starry sky effect.

G) I used free transform to modify the mountains & the logs for the campfire for them to appear bent over, or more angled mountains.

I really enjoyed making the new symbol for the spray paint tool and being able to create small to large stars in the background. I am definitely not an artist, but I really enjoy this class, and utilizing flash. I have no experience with this program, so it is all new to me, but so far I am catching on pretty easily. :)

Amber Krieck - Project 1

1.

a. I used these objects by clicking on the rectangle tool and then clicking on the object drawing and the snap object for the object drawing and the snap to object for the merge drawing. for the primitive shapes, i used the rectangle primitive tool and then adjusted the size of the stroke. if you wanted your shape to interact with other shapes on the same layer then you would choose the merge drawing, if you wanted just the shape and to modify then you would choose the object drawing. you would choose a primitive shape if you did not want it to interact with other shapes and if you wanted to be able to modify it easily.

b. I used the pen tool and created a triangle, then I added points and modified the shape by pulling and moving the point.

c. The tool that I used to create the "Hello" text was the text tool and the break apart tool.

d. The hexadecimal color that is used in the gradient shape is #E70000

e. Using the pencil tool with 42.75 stroke and stippled style. Using the brush tool with a ragged style and a 0.10 stroke.

f. The symbol I used instead of the defult is a green star.

g. I modifyed the first shape which was a square and now looks like a kite. The second object I modified is the teal colored shape that looks like a whale.

My experience: I love the pen tool, its really cool and the shapes that you can create are unique. I also like the deco tool and the pencil, there is just so much that can be created with this program and the different tools.

Kacey Project 1

Merge Drawing, Object Drawing, Primitive shapes: How did you utilize them? For what purpose would chose one type over another?

In my drawing I used Merge Drawing for the sky and the small circular piece of wood under the fire; Object Drawing for the Moon; Primitive Shapes for the firewood.

I tend to use Merge Objects for anything that I want to be able to "cut" into, such as the background. I did this because I needed to create a background while preserving the hills I had already created.

I use object drawing anytime there is something I don't want interacting with everything else, or something that I plan on having move around later on. Like on the moon, I wasn't sure where I wanted it therefore I created it with object drawing so as not to cut into the background. I also was planning on later animating the moon to move across the sky.

I used primitive shapes when I new I was making something simple that wouldn't need a lot of detail. The logs are a perfect example of this I needed to make something quick and with simple curved edges, the Primitive Rectangle was perfect for the job.

Draw a image using the pen: Explain how you created this image on the blog.

There were two objects in this image that I created using the pen tool. The first being the hilly grass in the background and the second being the flames of the fire. I created the grass by making a rough outline around the bottom half of the stage, where I knew I wanted the grass to be. After which I went in with the sub selection tool and moved points around and edited curves. Once I got things more worked out I went back in and added/deleted points here and there and then converted the right, bottom, and left sides to straight lines allowing me to fill it in.

The other object were the flames, these were really fun to make. I decided to use the pen to create the flames because it would give me the ability to create it larger than I needed it and then scale it down to a much smaller size, all without losing detail or getting pixalated. So off to the side of the stage I began work on it creating the flame which I then filled, copy and pasted. Using the free transform tool I re-sized and adjusted the flames as I need so that they would fit on top of each other.

Create and then modify text: What tools did you use?

In this case I decided to use Text for the facial expressions on the Orbs in my image, allowing me to give them emoticon like eyes. I changed the font family to Tempus Sans ITC and modified the size to 27. I played around with the filters but decided in the end I liked it better without anything.

Gradient object: Please state the hexadecimal colors used.

In this picture I used gradients in 3 different places; the grass, the moon, and the dark sky. The grass I created my own gradient using 4 different color pointers (Hexadecimal numbers were: #006600, #00FF00, #00FB00, #003300). After filling in the grass I then used the Gradient Transform Tool to make the bright spot a little smaller and tilt it at an angle, giving the effect that there is a little moonlight.

Pencil and brush objects (both): Describe in your blog posting what settings you used.

In my drawing both the pencil and brush objects are fairly small. The Pencil Object in the picture is the wooden post holding the tent up. I also use the pencil to cover up part of the post that I didn't want to show. The settings I used was roughly a 4.5 pencil size and the straight mode.

The Brush Object is in the round like log underneath the fire. The light-brown swirl was made using the round brush in the 3rd biggest size. I left the Paint Mode as Paint Normal.

Use the Deco or/and Spray tools to create a background pattern: State symbol used in blog.

I created a small 5 pointed star and turned it into a symbol to use with the spray tool. You can see them scattered about in the sky. I had to mess with the setting to get it to work just right but I found after creating a 200 x 200 brush size and using a scaling of 25% width and height it worked perfectly. The random scaling and rotate symbol were both checked.

Use the transform tools to modify at least two graphics within your image:Please state which ones you modified.

There were several objects I used the transform tool on. In fact everything in my picture was transformed in some way or another. The most common thing I did with this tool was adjusting the size of objects. Other than that I moved around some of the stars I created using the spray tool. The object I did the most transforming to is the almost circular piece of wood. It was really nice to be able to take a completely circular object and manipulate it to is had to flat edges, then shrink it all in one foul swoop.

My Experience:

I found this project to be fairly fun. It was nice to get used to using all the tools and experimenting with what they could do. It was difficult to come up with an idea for what to create at first but after I started to play around I was able to decide on a cohesive idea. I would have to say my favorite tool to use this time would be the pen tool, it makes creating objects extremely easy. On top of that it creates the objects in a vector format instead of raster allowing me to play with the size as much as I want without having to worry.

Orson Project 1

Use all three shape types: Merge Drawing, Object Drawing, Primitive shapes
How did you utilize them? For what purpose would chose one type over another?

I used the Primitive Shape for the sun. I used the Merged Drawing for the Sky. I used the object drawing for some of the clouds. I would use the primitive shape if I wanted to control elements of the object after it was drawn. I would use the merged drawing for more complex shapes that needed borders to be attached to them, for instance and use the normal objects for everything else.

Draw a image using the pen; modify the image using the Subselection tool. Modify the image to utilize several modes of the pen tool that demonstrate your skills using Bezier curves.
Explain how you created this image on the blog.

I used the the pen tool to create the flower shape. I then merged this shape with some other pen strokes and turned the whole thing into a symbol which I could manipulate more easily.

Create and then modify text. What tools did you use?

I used the glow filter and changed the font to Verdana and increased the point size and made the text bold.

Gradient object. Create your own gradient with a modified focal point.
Please state the hexadecimal colors used.

I created the sky with a gradient that I modified the focal point of. The hexidecimal numbers were #121838 and #7E9DB1.

Pencil and brush objects (both).
Describe in your blog posting what settings you used.

I used the pencil tool to create grass using the straighten and ink settings and used the pen all over with various thickness and bevels.

Use the Deco or/and Spray tools to create a background pattern.

Use the transform tools to modify at least two graphics within your image.
Please state which ones you modified.

I used the transform tool on the flowers.

Project_1_Cas175.johnburns

Okay, this is my first project blog (and my second blog ever), so here I go. First I had hit a few snags in my project (but I still got it done to the best of my ability). First I had to use my parents computer to look at the syllabus and assignment instructions on account for some reason my computer wouldn't let me look at it. My second problem was understanding the instructions to the project. But thanks to a little ingenuity and a reply from the instructor over the email, I managed to do what I did and get my project done.

Anyway for the merge drawing I did what we did in class, make one full moon (mine was orange) and make a smaller full moon of a different color. I dragged that smaller moon over inside the edge of the bigger moon, deselected it, selected it again and then hit delete cropping a big circle in the middle of my orange moon to make it look like a crescent one. As for my primitive shape, I selected the oval primitive tool, selected the #FF0000 fill color and #FF3300 stroke color. My stroke was set @ 6.80 while my start angle was 67.92 degrees and my inner radius was 75.65. I then held shift as I drew my little open pac-man facing down making him a perfect circle (-like empty monster thingy). Then I used the free transform tool to rotate him 45 degrees counter clockwise revealing that it is a C. For my Object Drawing I selected the polystar but chose to let the fill and stroke colors remain (cause I like them so much). I then selected the Object Drawing Button. I then selected the star style, 7 sides and 0.25 point size. I did the same thing I did with the C (without rotating it though) and made its dimensions proportional. i then lined the three images up vertically and made them into a little totem pole (haha) on the left side of the stage. But to get out of Object Drawing Mode, I had to select the polystar button again before turning the Object Drawing button off.

Then to the far right of my totem pole I began using my pen tool with a solid #00CC00 colored stroke. And with it I made what looked like an envelope only I put Bezier curves on the bottom. Then I used the sub selection tool to drag the envelope fold-point to the bottom of the envelope's front. After that I began my Gradient object by using an empty oval. Then I put a few lines for surface texture. I then went to the paint bucket tool and invented my own Gradient using the radial style and the colors #FF0000 & #990000. I then used the paint bucket to fill the circle before I selected and deleted the circle's outer line. I then used the Gradient transform tool to enlarge the center, lighter color and drag it to the upper right corner of my circle. When i was finished, I saw my version of Nike's red-rubber ball.

I then selected the brush tool, the #000000 color and the 3rd largest brush size. I then draw two of these ^. I then selected the pencil tool and drew a cute face using smooth pencil mode. I then used the straight pencil mode (I know that isn't right, I'm sorry) and made whiskers for my kitty face. (Kitty Ear Mode! ^^) I then re-sized and distorted the image using the Free Transform Tool. And like with my first totem pole, I rearranged these images and made them another totem pole at the right side of the stage.

After that, I made a new layer for the text. I then locked the previous layer and set its visibility to false using the eye and lock buttons. But to remember where they were, I put two lines on the second layer so I know how long my lines have to be. I then selected the type of text I would use in the text menu: Color #003300, Australian Sunrise font, Faux Bold Style, Size 14. I then typed a paragraph based on a noir/fantasy-based idea I came up for my comic book stories. Then I copied and pasted the paragraph twice and modified it using the Free Transform tool. And then I deleted the boundary lines before locking the layer and turning off its visibility.

After that I created one more layer for my symbol. For my symbol, I decided to use a Double-C using the oval primitive tool (with one C inside the other). My first one (the big C) had a solid stroke (4.85) color of #FFFF00 and the #000066 fill color. For the smaller C I switched the hexidecimal colors and put that on the inside of the bigger C (I used the free transform tool to modify the sizes of both C's). I then selected both Primitive shapes and used the f8 button to convert them into a single symbol which was then stashed in the library as a movie clip. I then deleted the first symbol on the stage before selecting the Deco Tool (Drawing Effect: Symmetry Brush, Module: My Symbol, Advance Options: Rotate Around) and created a circle of 8 of my symbols. I then placed that layer behind the other two and turned those back on. Regretibly I don't know how to shut off those squares in the center, so I sent my project to the SWS.

You may have noticed that I didn't use any squares, but that's because I didn't know what to do with them (what to make out of them). And if those Primitive tools didn't make the primitive shapes, then I'm sorry. I tried looking in Chapter 2 for more on Primitive shapes, but that was all i could translate for it.
Personally, I'd rather not use the primitive Shapes or Object Drawing modes because I can do more with Merge Drawings. I also prefer using the Basic Oval/Rectangle, Pencil, Brush, Line and Paint Bucket tools for the very same reason. But I'll experiment with more of these other tools and new features I suppose.
So basically, that's my project in a not-so-small nutshell. I hope I haven't taken up too much space on the blog board.

Darin Tillinghast Project 1

Ok so I did the whole project wrong. I did each segment as if it were a separate piece. I’m not rewriting this whole story. I used pieces of most everything I did and modified it all and added a few things to come up with a quick fix. Here is my crazy design on the spur of the moment…I wanted to cry when I saw what other people did and realized I spent days going the wrong way!

a. My three shapes we used in class, the first is the oval the

Shape for the fill I used the linear then I choose the Snap to Objects icon to choose a fill and stroke of Dashed to the edge. The second is the drawing object also a linear fill I used a hatched yellow around the object. The third is a rectangle primitive same fill I used a blue dashed fill and stroke. On all of them I used the stroke dial to make the frames wider. Then I used a fill type of radial and made the shape again.

b. Pen tool was so difficult and frustrating, im not so good at using the pen tool, however I made this heart and then used the paint bucket tool to fill it and it looks OK. I used the sub selection tool to pull the heart out and shape it after I drew it with the pen tool.

c. I used Poor Richard for the "surfs up in" then switched to Show card Gothic for the Hawaii. I used the “break apart” to move one of the I’s of Hawaii so I could refit on the same line. I could probably do the same thing with the shift key and the arrows increases or decrease the letter spacing. I realized I can kern these letters by holding down the shift ctrl and alt key while using the left and right arrow keys to move my letters in or out from each other. I highlighted these to move them. I can also move just one or two letters by clicking next to that letter and use the same keys to move just one letter. I tried to use the linear tool for color on the Hawaii however I was unable to do so and very frustrated that it seems not to be an option I wanted the text colors can have that multi colored look. ;( I found that if I use Control B twice it will break apart the text and they are now a raw shape that I can change the colors once it’s an editable shape. Then I can use the linear or radial colors that I originally wanted to use. I had fun with the text fonts and colors and moving the text around and felt the most comfortable with this process.

d. My earth gradient objects I transformed to have a shadow on the one side. The hexadecimal color used #00FF00

e. Pencil used straighten setting .10 second one 11.70. Normal scale, cap and join round. I used the brush tool to make mountains. I used the over tool to add a blue moon and little ovals to make a design.

f. Deco tool I made a star and the pattern, it worked perfect, however I am having difficulty repeating my steps with this. Once I save the creation to my library I can’t seem to find it again.

g. I used the rectangle tool, stippled the boarder increased the stroke to 15.55, then I went to modify rotate and skew and moved the object parallel, then back to transform and used envelope to create a bow then I flipped it and now it’s a martini glass figure.

kenAvdeef_project1

My project 1 is a doodle project so I created circles and shapes.

A Using the three shape types.

1. For the merge drawing I created a rectangle the cut out the center to make a C then filled it in with blue.

2. For the object drawing I created an oval circle and filled in the center with red.

3. For the primitive shapes I created a C and filled in the C with red.

Merge drawing are good for making difficult shapes, object good for making solid shapes and primitive shapes are good for making wheels or half circles.

B. Using the Pen

1. I created the green part of the graphic using the pen and the Bezier tool by making a half circle. And on the other side I created a triangle with the pen tool and filled it in with red.

C. The text

1. I used the trajan pro bold text with an 18pt size font with a red color and a drop shadow to create the text.

D. Gradient object

1. For the gradient object I created an oval circle and used the gradient transform tool for that object with a hexadecimal color of AODC12.

E. Brush and pencil tool

1. I used the brush to create a circle with a smooth setting and filled the circle with orange to make an orange.

2. I then used the pencil to make an apple set the stroke to 5 then filled in the apple with red.

F. Deco tool

1. I created a new layer and put it underneath the graphic layer and used to Deco spray tool to create the pattern.

G. Transform tool

1. I modified the red oval circle for the object drawing and made it a little larger and rotated it 45 degrees using the transform tool.

2. I modified the red C that I created with the primitive tool by stretching out the C with the transform tool.
